We know that our name is not very catchy or flashy but it holds a lot of meaning to us (and hopefully to you too soon).
Many years ago Brenda, our beloved mother and grandmother, liked to watch MADtv; especially the skits where one of the characters called people Shelly. She picked up saying that and called everyone Shelly - and I mean EVERYONE, so much so that it became a term of endearment in our family. Brenda was a giver, who would do anything for anyone, and was also known for being trendy. She loved to have the best of everything! Best clothes, best shoes, best house. But she liked hunting for deals to get a good bargain.
On the one month anniversary of Brenda passing we had a girls get together. While together, we talked about how much we missed a previous pop up consignment shop in Abilene. We thought, "if we miss it this much, surely other people do too - why don't we try to get it going again?!" After deciding to go for it, we started throwing around names... it all came back to the first Shelly.
"Shelly's House" reminds us of beautiful things at a great price. It reminds us of the welcoming feeling of being at Brenda's home. It reminds us that that time passes quickly and that anyone can be a Shelly/friend. But must importantly it reminds us of someone very special.
That's what Shelly means to us. Come be our Shelly!
We are 4 sisters and their mom from Texas. We have traveled all over the world (with the military, so LITERALLY!) and have been on the hunt for great deals no matter where we're at.
Although we are a rather young group of ladies, the youngest being only 15, we are determined and not scared of any hard work or obstacles that come our way.
TLO 51 ~ Being the mom of a large, single income family, I have always tried to steward the many blessings God has given, to the best of my ability. We did lots of hand-me-downs, and I found a true love for shopping consignment as a remarkable way to build fantastic wardrobes for each season, and to do it on a budget! Along with that, I learned of the opportunity there to extend the life of our no-longer-wanted items, and to be able to supplement our income a little at the same time, while still not sacrificing my top priority of being home with my children. So, when asked what my motivation was to be a part of Shelly's house, it was mainly that I want to have a part in offering other families the same things I grew to love. So, I want to facilitate faithful stewardship and have an opportunity to generate some extra income, while offering others those very same opportunities. Mainly, though, for me, embarking on this journey with my girls is all the motivation I needed. Matthew 6:21 says that "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." These young ladies are both my treasure and my heart.
SNH 28 ~ I am a Christian above all else and want to be a light that points to the Lord in our community. I've always enjoyed reading, writing, baking and just recently discovered that I like to paint. I'm excited to add Shelly's House to the list and to be a part of this project. It's an honor to work with such an amazing group of girls who I love so dearly! Each one is so special and brings something different to the table. The collaboration of each person has crafted such a unique experience.
DEB 23 ~ I am a follower of Jesus, that is my true and most steadfast and important identity - but along with Christian there are many hats that I wear to identify who I am; wife, mother, daughter, friend, and sister. I fall in the middle of the sisters in our family, giving me the best of both worlds! A big sister whom I’ve learned so much from and who I look up to more than just about anyone else I know. And two very dear little sisters that I’ve had the absolute privilege of watching grow up, and the immense feeling of responsibility to be a role model for them. My identity as sister is one of my favorites and I feel so blessed and honored to share Shelly’s house with them and our sweet momma. I so look forward to working with them and to serving the Abilene area with our new business!
PMO 21 ~ I was there for the first meeting and it was just decided that we were doing it so I had no choice. I'm mainly doing it for the stuff.
SMO 15 ~ I was just told that we were doing it and wanted to be a part.
Our goal is to serve Abilene and surrounding areas by offering luxurious items at an affordable price. We strive to live out our everyday lives in ways that will bring honor and glory to our King.
